A new website will help parents find information and register for their choice of early learning and child care centres across Prince Edward Island, says Premier Robert Ghiz.
“The Government of Prince Edward Island continues to invest in education and early childhood development initiatives,” said Premier Ghiz. “The new registry established by the Early Childhood Development Association is a great way for parents to access information on all licensed early childhood facilities available across the province. This is part of Government’s overall commitment to early childhood education through the Preschool Excellence Initiative.”
The Prince Edward Island Child Care Registry at www.elccregistry.ca includes helpful information about regulated early learning and child care programs across the province. Once an online account is created, families will be able to register for wait lists for multiple centres and receive a more immediate response on availability. Centres will also receive an accurate picture of who is looking for early learning and child care services in Prince Edward Island.
“This registration tool will help streamline the process and allow parents to provide information that will help centres better prepare for children,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Doug Currie. “Our department continues to work with the early childhood development system and families to ensure our youngest children have access to the best early learning and child care opportunities possible.”
The Early Childhood Development Association is administering the online registry as part of the Preschool Excellence Initiative.
“Our new online registry provides a lot of information that can help families choose an early childhood facility that suits their needs,” said Sonya Corrigan, executive director with the Early Childhood Development Association. “The registry is very easy to use and will keep an accurate account of available spaces across the province. Families are encouraged to visit early childhood centres to gain a better understanding of the variety of program activities for infants, preschool and school-aged children.”

BACKGROUNDER
About the Prince Edward Island Child Care Registry
The Prince Edward Island Child Care Registry is an online tool that will help families search for regulated early learning and child care across the province either through a list or map view of centre locations. Once an online account is created, families will be able to register for wait lists for multiple centres and receive a more immediate response on availability.
Registering is easy and involves entering your family information and child care needs. After registering, families can select to wait for a space in one or multiple centres. An email will be sent to confirm the families’ registration. Notification will also be sent to the centre(s) to inform them that another child has entered their waiting list. When space becomes available, families will be notified by telephone to finalize their registration to the program.
