Provincial Cabinet's Operations Committee to meet in Alberton on Thursday

Premier's Office
The Chair of the Operations Committee of the Provincial Cabinet announced today that they will host their next meeting on the road tomorrow in the community of Alberton. The Committee will meet with Alberton municipal officials about local issues and opportunities, as well as with fisheries groups in order to learn more about the recently announced changes to the Employment Insurance Program.

“We believe it is important to meet with groups that have first-hand knowledge of how these legislated changes will affect the Prince Edward Island economy in the short and long term,” said Committee Chair, the Hon. Robert Vessey. “We are seeking clarity from the Federal Government on these changes; meanwhile, we need to learn from those most impacted about the likely impact on them, their communities and their industry.”

The Operations Committee is mandated to establish and review government’s legislative and regulatory agenda, as well as provide advice to Cabinet on legislative and regulatory matters.

Local MLA and Committee Member, Alberton-Roseville MLA Pat Murphy looks forward to the visit. “I’m looking forward to hosting my colleagues in Alberton where we will have an opportunity to discuss issues that are very important in my community.”

This is the first of a series of summer meetings that the Operations Committees will be holding in communities across the Island.
