Province supports Association of Exhibitions through three-year funding agreement

The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries will support the Prince Edward Island Association of Exhibitions (PEIAE) through a three-year funding agreement, said Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Alan McIsaac.

“The Government of Prince Edward Island is a proud supporter of the PEIAE and their promotion of our province’s rich history and culture,” said Minister McIsaac. “Many of the fairs and exhibitions held throughout the year showcase P.EI.’s primary industries and highlight our great Island food products. We are proud to support an organization that shares the same values as our department when it comes to the support of local food and Island heritage.”

The three-year, $614,000 funding agreement will provide the PEIAE with operational funding and the ability to provide grants to the variety of volunteer- based fairs and exhibitions that occur across P.E.I. annually.

There are currently a dozen events held under the PEIAE, with most happening in rural areas of the province. A study by the University of Prince Edward Island stated there is approximately $4.1 million in direct spending each year on accommodations, food, shopping and offsite attractions when someone was in an area of P.E.I. to attend a festival or exhibition.

“The PEIAE is pleased to have signed a new memorandum of understanding with the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries,” said Morgan Ings-Bernard, Administrative Director of PEIAE. “

This support is essential to the successful execution of our member fairs, festivals and exhibitions, which provide a variety of opportunities to experience our Island’s culture and primary industries each summer. Our Association is extremely grateful for this partnership.”
