November 5, 2010 * Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal [to May 2015]Beginning today and until further notice the Point Pleasant Bridge on Route 17 in Point Pleasant is subject to weight restrictions. The restrictions were put in place after an assessment of the structure by engineers from the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. The restrictions mean vehicles with a gross weight higher than 5,500 kilograms, or with axle weights higher than 3,500 kilograms cannot cross the bridge. The alternate route for those vehicles is as follows: Heavy vehicles heading toward Murray River from Murray Harbour North on Route 17 should continue heading north on Route 17a, Cambridge Road at its intersection with route 17, then take a left on Route 324, Peters Road, then a left on Route 4, Commercial Road into Murray River. The route is reversed for heavy vehicles heading east from Murray River toward Murray Harbour North (Route 4 to Route 324 to Route 17a to Route 17). Department engineers are now assessing the best possible course of action for the structure in the short term.Media Contact: Andrew Sprague
