July 26, 2002 * Transportation and Public Works [to Jan 2010]The Department of Transportation and Public Works today announced plans for further capital improvements to Route 2 (Veterans Memorial Highway) at the intersection of O'Leary Corner which will enhance safety and accommodate possible future economic development opportunities. "The plans for capital improvements will further enhance safety along Route 2 by allowing for a safe, efficient movement of present and future traffic in West Prince that further economic growth will bring," said Transportation and Public Works Minister Don MacKinnon. The plans announced today include the construction of additional turning lanes in both directions at the O'Leary Corner intersection along with general enhancements to the intersection itself to safely accommodate possible economic development in the O'Leary area. Construction of the improvements to the intersection is scheduled to begin next week. The project was tendered and awarded to HI Construction, which was low bidder. The value of the provincial investment is approximately $312,000. West Point-Bloomfield MLA Eva Rodgerson welcomed news of the investment. "Today's announcement will address safety issues along Route 2 and create the opportunity for the safe economic growth of the O'Leary area, creating more jobs in the community," said Rodgerson.Media Contact: Don MacKinnon
