The provincial government today announced that it will be partnering with the Town of Cornwall on the expansion of the community's storm water management system.

The province, through the Department of Transportation and Public Works, will invest $75,000 towards the development and construction of a storm water retention pond on provincial and town property located off Heatherway Drive and Scott Avenue in the community.

"I'm pleased that our department is able to partner with communities like Cornwall on projects like these," said Transportation and Public Works Minister Gail Shea in announcing the funding." This kind of work will help Cornwall continue to grow safely into the future."

Adequate storm water management systems are key to helping ensure that commercial and residential growth occurs in an environmentally sustainable manner. Storm water management systems enable the conveyance, temporary storage and retention of storm water for its safe and orderly disposal by a community's infrastructure system.

"This work will help the town grow further and strengthen our environmental services to our residents. We're very pleased that this work is being done," said Cornwall Mayor Jack Kelly.

The work is currently underway and is scheduled to take approximately two to four weeks to complete. The project was successfully tendered by Island Coastal. The estimated cost of the project is approximately $75,000.
