Province Honours Pope John Paul II

Premier's Office
Over the weekend, Premier Pat Binns expressed sadness upon hearing of the death of Pope John Paul II. Premier Binns asked that flags at all provincial public building be lowered to half-mast until the late Pontiff's funeral later this week.

"I believe this Pope will not only be remembered as the Catholic Church's shepherd, but also as an able defender and promoter of freedom for all of humanity," said the Premier.

Binns was referencing John Paul II's twenty-six year pontificate, the third longest in history, and his efforts to bring down the walls in communist-controlled countries.

"I join Islanders in remembering Pope John Paul II and his life's work of bringing people together, promoting peace and setting new standards for leadership."
