Province To Consult Islanders About Daylight Savings Time

Premier's Office
Premier Pat Binns today announced plans to consult Islanders for their views regarding proposed changes to the current system of daylight savings time.

This week, the United States Congress approved a measure to change the time when daylight savings occurs as part of an energy conservation bill. The current practice of daylight savings time occurring from April to October would be replaced with it starting in March and ending in November. As a result, several Canadian provinces are examining what impacts a variance in daylight savings time may have on the trade, tourism and transportation sectors to name just a few areas.

“Any changes to daylight savings time that may occur in other jurisdictions could impact all Islanders,” said Premier Binns. “Such a measure would have environmental, economic and safety implications that would need to be considered so I think that it’s important that Islanders have their say about the issue.”

Premier Binns indicated that interested Islanders could make their views about daylight savings time known by going onto the government website at www.gov.pe.ca/daylightsavings/ and expressing their opinion.
