The Provincial Government has taken another step toward moving the Department of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development to its future home in Montague. Today the Minister for the Department, Neil LeClair, Minister of Transportation and Public Works Ron MacKinley, Belfast-Murray River MLA Charlie McGeoghegan, Montague Councilor Janice Taylor and developers Randy Cooper and Ian Smith broke ground to begin construction of the new facility.

“Moving this Department to the Town of Montague helps re-affirm this government’s commitment to rural Prince Edward Island,” says Minister LeClair. “I am confident this move will provide a boost for local businesses, new opportunities for residents of Kings County, and it will help bring increased rural perspective to government.”

The new, single-storey building will be located on Main Street across from the post office. The province will lease the building from developers once construction wraps up late this year.

“We were fortunate to secure a location in the heart of the community,” says Minister of Transportation and Public Works Ron MacKinley. “This new building will be a welcome addition to the main thoroughfare in Montague.”
