Province To Appoint Fourth Provincial Court Judge

* Provincial Affairs [to Oct 1996]
Attorney General Lynwood MacPherson today announced that Executive Council has approved in principle the appointment of a fourth Judge to the Prince Edward Island Provincial Court. The decision to begin the selection process was made following consultations between the Department of * Provincial Affairs [to Oct 1996] and Attorney General and the Honourable Ralph C. Thompson, Chief Judge of the Provincial Court.

In accordance with the process first used last year in the appointment of Judge Nancy K. Orr, a Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee will be constituted to receive and review applications from persons eligible for appointment under the Provincial Court Act. The Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee process was established in 1995 to ensure that the Attorney General receives independent non-partisan advice on the suitability of applicants for appointment to the Provincial Court.
