Proposed Site For New Fort Augustus School Announced - Investment Reflects Government's Priorities Focussing on Education and Building Stronger Communities

Education Minister Chester Gillan announced today that the proposed site for the new Fort Augustus School is a property in Donagh, near Fort Augustus, Prince Edward Island. The proposed 18-acre site, is located in Donagh at the intersections of route 215 and 257.

Minister Gillan noted that the proposed Donagh property was recommended by the Eastern School District based on input from the Fort Augustus School Advisory Committee.

"The construction of a replacement school in the Fort Augustus area demonstrates our commitment to creating better learning environments for Island students and follows through on our efforts to build stronger Island communities," said Minister Gillan.

Plans for the new school will be unveiled at a public meeting to be held at Fort Augustus School tonight, Tuesday, November 23, at 7:30 pm. Officials with the provincial government, the Eastern School District, and architectural experts will be on hand to discuss the proposed plans and respond to questions.

The construction of the new school falls under Phase One of the government's $35,000,000 Capital Construction Plan for PEI Schools. Construction of the new school is expected to begin in the spring of 2000.
