Renovations to the bowling lanes at the North Rustico Lions Club will enhance recreational opportunities for area residents and tourists, says Health and Wellness Minister Carolyn Bertram.
“This provision of recreational opportunities in rural communities is an important component of the provincial government’s rural development strategy,” said Minister Bertram. “The North Rustico Lions Club is to be commended for the work they have done to restore the bowling lane and the services their club contributes to the community.”
“The Rural Action Plan addresses opportunities for social and economic development in communities across Prince Edward Island,” said Minister LeClair. “It reflects the commitment of the provincial government to the well-being of rural communities and their residents.”
The project involved the renovation and resurfacing of the bowling lanes at the Lions Club. It included the installation of a prolone synthetic glow product and new lighting which will make the lanes more attractive. The total cost of the project was $54,926. The Island Community Fund contributed $25,000, and the Department of Health and Wellness contributed $7,500 through its Community Recreation Support Program. The balance of $21,426 came from the Lions Club.
“We were so pleased to officially reopen the bowling lanes,” said Peter Gallant, Secretary of the North Rustico Lions Club. “These upgrades will help to attract more people to our facility and offer a better service to our current patrons. The Lions Club now offers a full service entertainment centre, including bar, bingo, bowling, trivia nights and weekend entertainment.”
The Island Community Fund is a six-year $27.5 million program to address infrastructure needs in rural communities. Community Recreation Support Program provides support for recreational facilities, leadership and projects that will enable residents to enjoy an active lifestyle.
