The PEI Liquor Control Commission is asking its customers to immediately stop using the flasks purchased as part of an Appleton brand gift pack, since recent tests revealed these flasks are leaching undue lead levels. Consumers are invited to return such products to any liquor store to obtain a full refund.
Traces of lead have been detected by the Sociétés des Alcools du Québec Quality Management Board in the flask soldered weld. The detected lead concentration exceeds the allowed limit set for equivalent products. While no complaints regarding this issue have been received so far, a general recall is launched in close collaboration with Appleton Rum as a preventative measure.
Recalled products are:
1. Flask featured in Appleton rum gift pack containing a 375 ml bottle of Appleton rum, the metal flask and a coaster. The flask bears the mention stainless steel 6 ounces on its bottom and is wrapped in tan leather with the Appleton Estate Rum Jamaica signature.
2. Flask featured in Appleton rum gift pack containing a 375 ml bottle of Appleton rum, the metal flask and a shooter glass. The flask bears the mention stainless steel format 6 ounces and is wrapped in burgundy leatherette with a silver colored metal badge with Appleton Estate 250 years celebrating written on it.
The product code appearing on both items is 532044.
Consumers are invited to return the purchased or received product to the liquor store of their choice to obtain full refund.
