Producers Elected to Potato Board

Murray Myles, Returning Officer for the Prince Edward Island Potato Board elections, today announced that six potato producers have been elected by acclamation to serve on the Potato Board. Representing seed producers are Barry Gallant, West Prince district, who will serve a three-year term, and Wayne Diamond, Charlottetown, for one year. Processing producers will be represented by Wade Caseley, Summerside, for three years, and Ricky Sanderson, Charlottetown, for two years. The tablestock representatives are Peter Van Nieuwenhuyzen, Charlottetown, and Brian Ching, Montague-Souris, both elected for three-year terms.

Mr. Myles said that all terms will commence following the annual meeting of producers which is scheduled to be held on November 17.

Mr. Myles also announced that Marketing Council has appointed Wade Caseley to fill a vacancy on the Potato Board created by the resignation of Dwight Gardiner. Mr. Caseley’s appointment is effective immediately.

The Prince Edward Island Potato Board is a producer-funded commodity board formed under the Natural Products Marketing Act. The Board is comprised of twelve active potato producers elected from four agricultural districts described in the Potato Marketing Plan Regulations. Under the Regulations, one seed producer, one table stock producer and one processing producer is elected from each of the four districts.
