Prince Edward Island Web Site Wins National Award

* Development and Technology [to Apr 2008]
The Province of Prince Edward Island's web site was the recipient of a major national award at the Internet World Canada Annual Impact Awards today in Toronto.

Penton Media sponsors the awards which recognize and honour those web sites from across Canada that have excelled in their contribution to this dynamic industry. These awards acknowledge the innovation, imagination and determination of those sites excelling as catalysts of change. The awards are presented as part of the Internet World Canada 1999 Conference.

"I am delighted that PEI's web site has received the honour as being the best site in Canada at changing the way people play. It is a significant achievement that our site was chosen from the many entries that were received for this category," PEI Premier Pat Binns said. "It is indeed a prestigious award to receive."

An awards committee reviewed all of the nominations for each of the six categories to make a decision on the winning site. The Province of Prince Edward Island's web site is the first government site to receive any award in the three years that the awards have taken place. The award is a Tiffany lead crystal plate engraved with the award logo.

"Staff throughout various Provincial government departments have worked hard to make the web site a success. We pride ourselves in working together to provide information to Internet users about PEI as a place to live, work, do business and vacation. I applaud the efforts of staff in each department who have contributed to the development of the information on the web site," said Don MacKinnon, Minister of Development. "In addition, Digital Island, who is under contract with the Province to develop the web site, has done a masterful job in developing a flexible, easy to use site."

This latest award for the Prince Edward Island web site is one of an impressive list of recognitions, including top government web site in Canada as awarded by the Government Computer Magazine, a five star rating from Cnet in a recent review of provincial government web sites, and Yahoo Canada Pick of the Week.
