Prince Edward Island has the honour of hosting the 2002 "Ambassador Invitational" this coming summer. The high profile event is organized by the Canadian Tourism Commission in partnership with a select province and territory each year. This year, the honour belongs to Prince Edward Island.
"The Ambassador Invitational is a tremendous opportunity for PEI to make an impression on key national and international travel influencers. The guests who will be invited here for the event have the ability of generating a tremendous amount of tourism activity for the Island," said Tourism Minister, Greg Deighan.
The "Ambassador Invitational" is designed to be a practical and education-focussed event intended to showcase Canada's tourism products. Its objective is to create a first-hand opportunity to experience Canada as a destination for major national and international tour operators. Through a series of business and networking sessions, invited guests will benefit from meeting with key national, regional and local Canadian tourism industry representatives. They will discuss a wide range of topics associated with the global tourism industry.
This event will bring an estimated 65 national and international tourism business clients, as well as several senior executives from the Canadian tourism industry to experience Prince Edward Island over a four-day period.
"Many of these international tour companies are not familiar with Prince Edward Island. We will do our best to make an impression on them and to encourage them to think of PEI as a premier destination when they are planning their itineraries," said Minister Deighan.
