Prince Edward Island Seafood Guide released

* Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development [to May 2015]
A new seafood guide is being launched to promote and market Prince Edward Island seafood to buyers and markets around the world, says Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development Minister Ron MacKinley.

“This new guide reflects our commitment to develop and expand markets for Island seafood products,” said Minister MacKinley. “We have a distinctive, sustainable high-quality product that we can promote with pride. This guide highlights the products we produce and the people and the companies that make up this industry.”

The new guide is being released during the Christmas season which is the industry’s busiest time with Prince Edward Island processors and packers shipping lobsters, mussels and oysters around the world.

“More seafood is consumed during the holidays than any other time of year,” said the Minister. “Seafood is an important part of holiday celebrations everywhere.”

The Prince Edward Island Seafood Guide is aimed at regional, national and international buyers. It provides comprehensive information on species harvested, products processed, the location of seafood plants and contact information.

Minister MacKinley said it’s a valuable way to connect with existing customers and expand markets.

“The seafood processing industry is a significant contributor to the economy of Prince Edward Island,” he said. “We are working very hard to support our primary producers by increasing demand for our seafood products which will provide higher returns to the industry.”

The Prince Edward Island Seafood Guide is available online at gov.pe.ca/go/seafood.
