Prince Edward Island recognized as premier vacation destination

Prince Edward Island’s recent recognition as a top travel destination by two international magazines reflects the strength of the tourism industry in the province, says Tourism and Culture Minister Robert Henderson.

“Islanders know just how special our province is, with its beautiful coastlines, fresh culinary products and rich culture,” said the minister. “We should all feel a sense of pride that visitors from around the world see Prince Edward Island as a top destination.”

Prince Edward Island was ranked second in Condé Nast Traveler magazine’s top five islands in Canada. This is the first year the magazine’s Best in the World edition has featured a separate list of Canadian islands as part of its Readers’ Choice Awards. The publication is considered one of the world’s premier travel magazines.

Prince Edward Island was also recognized as one of the top 10 cycle routes in the world by London-based travel company Essential Travel. In its monthly online magazine, which reaches hundreds of thousands of customers, Essential Travel cited the Confederation Trail on Prince Edward Island for its beautiful scenery of beaches, rolling hills and quaint villages.

“As a government, we will continue to support our industry partners who work hard to promote our Island to visitors from around the world,” said the minister. “Tourism is a major industry on Prince Edward Island, employing thousands of Islanders and generating millions of dollars in revenue.”
