Prince Edward Island to Host Atlantic Summit on Arts and Culture

* Community and Cultural Affairs [to Jun 2007]
Prince Edward Island is hosting the Atlantic Summit on Arts and Culture from February 8 through to February 11, 2001. The summit, organized by the PEI Council of the Arts, is the first-ever meeting of Arts Councils in Atlantic Canada.

"I commend the PEI Council of the Arts on organizing this meeting and I hope that it will lead to continuing contact and cooperation between the provinces," says the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Community and Cultural Affairs.

The Summit will bring together members of the Arts Councils from each of the four Atlantic Provinces. The purpose of the Summit is to provide a forum for the councils to discuss the role of arts councils in each province, the similarities and differences in terms of how each council operates and to look at opportunities to partner and work together in advancing arts and culture in Atlantic Canada.

"Our size and our closeness provide us with a unique advantage; it is so important that we find ways of working together to advance arts and culture in Atlantic Canada," says Minister Shea. "Forums such as this help us to work together, share ideas and find ways to collaborate on future initiatives."

The Atlantic Summit on Arts and Culture has been sponsored in part by the Department of Development and Technology.
