The Commission also announced that it will be holding four public hearings in September to receive submissions on the proposals contained in the interim report. These hearings will be held as follows: the North Rustico Legion on September 7; the Cardigan Fire Hall on September 8; the O’Leary Lions Club on September 9 and; the Hotel Village sur l’ocean in Mount Carmel on September 13.
The Commission has set down certain rules with respect to the conduct of the public hearings. One of these is that in order to make a submission, a person or organization must give notice of intention to do so on or before August 23, 2004. The public hearings and the rules will be advertised in the local newspapers. As well, they are in the report and on-line.
In making this announcement, Commission Chair, Mr. Justice John McQuaid said, “The Commission looks forward to receiving submissions from Islanders on the proposals contained in the interim report and we hope many will attend the public hearings in September.” The Commission’s final report must be submitted by October 5, 2004.
