Prince County Hospital (PCH) physiotherapists, Trallawny O’Meara and Arlene Crozier Clow, recently received the 2006 Dalhousie University School of Physiotherapy Clinical Education Award. The awards are given annually to selected physiotherapists within the Atlantic provinces who act as mentors to students from the Dalhousie University School of Physiotherapy to recognize their outstanding contribution to clinical education.

O’Meara and Crozier Clow were nominated by students who did their clinical education at PCH over a five-week period in 2006.

“Ms. O’Meara and Mrs. Crozier Clow created a comfortable and rich environment for the clinical practice experience and offered endless opportunity for learning while playing an active role in the exchange of ideas and experiences,” said Gail Wainwright, Coordinator, Clinical Education, Dalhousie University.

Wainwright noted that it is extremely important to recognize those who have dedicated considerable time and effort in order to provide invaluable learning opportunities for students.

“Trallawny and Arlene are role models for all professionals in preparing and supporting students for the future,” said Patsy Finkle Barrett, Manager of Ambulatory Care/Allied Health Services, PCH. “They treat the students like colleagues and respect them as part of the physiotherapy team. This approach helps students build confidence and gain independence.”

Barrett also noted that the Prince County Hospital is committed to providing clinical education for students and future prospective physiotherapists for PEI.
