Premier Pat Binns today expressed his sympathy on behalf of the Government of Prince Edward Island to the family of Mr. Harry MacLauchlan who passed away this morning.
"Anyone who has ever met Harry knew right away that he was one of a kind. His determination and skill made him one of Prince Edward Island's leading entrepreneurs, becoming an ambassador for the province," said Premier Pat Binns.
A member of the PEI Business Hall of Fame, Mr. MacLauchlan owned and operated a number of businesses covering a wide range of fields such as construction, property development, retail, fuel services, tourism, and telecommunications. Literally hundreds of Islanders have worked for Mr. MacLauchlan's companies at one time or another.
In addition to being a leading business figure, Mr. MacLauchlan was also very active in the community, serving as President of the Tourism Industry Association of Prince Edward Island, the PEI Fisheries Association and Rotary. Mr. MacLauchlan was also a strong supporter of many community groups and charities throughout the province, particularly the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
"I wish to extend my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Mr. MacLauchlan on their loss. Harry will certainly be missed," said Binns.
Mr. MacLauchlan is survived by his wife Marjorie, his children Roger, Wade, Brenda, Catherine, Lorna and numerous grandchildren.
