Premiers Donate to Local Christmas Charity

Premier's Office
Premier Pat Binns today made a donation to Toys for Tots on behalf of the Canadian Premiers who are in Charlottetown to sign the Council of the Federation agreement.

“It gives me great pleasure to make a donation on behalf of the Canadian Premiers to Toys for Tots,” said Premier Binns. “We offer this donation so that Island children can experience a happy holiday season. Gift-giving is a traditional part of the holiday season and now more Island children will experience the joy of receiving a gift on Christmas morning.”

“I wish to thank 720 CHTN for the work that they do in promoting Toys for Tots in PEI. It has been a successful charity in past years, and we wish it continued success in the future,” said Premier Binns.

When radio station CHTN first went on air in 1975, one of its first community support programs was Toys for Tots. Throughout December, the CHTN announcers invite listeners to help ensure a happier Christmas for less fortunate Island children by donating a toy to Toys for Tots. Over the years, the program has grown to include thousands of toys, as well as individual and corporate cash donations. All cash donations are used to purchase gifts for children up to the age of sixteen, which are then distributed through the Catholic and Protestant Family Services Bureaus.
