Premier's Declaration Kicks Off First Ever Information Technology Week in Prince Edward Island

Premier's Office
The Honourable Pat Binns, Premier of Prince Edward Island celebrated the launch of IT Week in PEI by electronically signing the official declaration to begin the week's activities.

The Premier was accompanied by host partners, including Veterans Affairs Canada, Holland College, the University of Prince Edward Island, the Information Technologies Association of PEI and the Department of Technology and Environment to officially kick-off the special week.

IT Week in PEI will highlight the growing importance of the Information Technology industry to PEI's future and showcase how Island businesses, education institutions and governments are using Information Technology in innovative applications.

A new multi-media presentation created by Marshall Media Group highlighted the official launch of IT Week. The presentation included a fascinating, computer-generated animated short, profiling some of PEI's traditional images in an Information Technology setting. This unique presentation reflected the creativity that exists among the Island's technology companies. The digital signing of the IT Week declaration in PEI by Premier Binns symbolized the increasing importance of technology in our daily lives.

Throughout the week, many Island businesses will open their doors for demonstrations and open houses. Educational institutions will offer Internet access points, seminars and special activities for youth. A highlight of the week will be the three-day "Wired for the Future IT Fair" at the Prince Edward Hotel in Charlottetown.

IT Week in PEI is sponsored in part by the Knowledge Economy Partnership of Prince Edward Island.
