Islanders will mark the distinctiveness of the Acadian and Francophone community, and its contribution to the quality of life in our province, during Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie 2014, said Premier Robert Ghiz, Minister responsible for Acadian and Francophone Affairs.

“The Island’s Acadian roots run deep in every corner of this province, and our Francophone newcomers only add to the contribution made by French-speaking Islanders. I urge all Islanders to take part in the provincial celebrations of this legacy,” said the Premier. “These activities are an opportunity to celebrate our diversity, our rich Acadian heritage, and the importance of the French language in Prince Edward Island.”

This year’s Rendez-vous de la Francophonie will take place March 7 to 23. This annual event celebrates the French language and Acadian culture in Prince Edward Island. The Prince Edward Island theme for this year’s celebrations is Célébrons la francophonie du monde (“Celebrate La Francophonie Around the World”). Starting March 7, the Acadian flag will be flown at Province House for the duration of the celebrations.

The first Rendez-vous activity will be a youth performance “ManiFest’A Francophonie,” March 7, at 6 p.m. at the Carrefour de l’Isle-Saint-Jean, 5 Promenade Acadienne, Charlottetown. The evening will include theatre, an art exhibition and a multicultural buffet.
