The French language and Francophone culture in Prince Edward Island make the Journée internationale de la Francophonie a day worth celebrating by all Islanders, says Premier Robert Ghiz, Minister responsible for Acadian and Francophone Affairs.
“A thread of Francophone culture runs through Prince Edward Island, beginning with our historic Acadian communities and on to the contributions of more recently arrived French-speaking newcomers. Our French-speaking Islanders make this a stronger, more diverse province,” said Premier Ghiz. “The Francophonie includes nations from every corner of the world, and Prince Edward Island is a better place for being part of this international family.”
March 20, la Journée internationale de la Francophonie, is an annual event in which the 77 member nations of the Francophonie celebrate their shared language, their cultural ties and their commitment to international cooperation.
In Prince Edward Island, the main event of the Francophonie celebrations, is the Rendez-vous de la Francophonie which runs from March 7 to 23 at venues across the province. www.rvf.ca
