October 1, 2003 Premier's Office Premier Pat Binns will release the final report of the Atlantic Canada Insurance Harmonization Task Force on Friday. Following a meeting of Atlantic Premiers, the Task Force was established to develop a "Model Act" for the harmonization of insurance in the Atlantic Provinces. Provinces have been in discussions regarding harmonization for several years with an aim to provide increased and more specific consumer protection measures. "I am pleased to announce that I have received the task force report and, following a presentation and discussion at our Caucus table tomorrow, it is my intention to make the findings of that report public on Friday morning," said Premier Binns. "Insurance rates are a concern for Islanders, and this report will assist our province in addressing their needs while working with our partners throughout Atlantic Canada to address regional insurance issues." Copies will be available Friday at Island Information Service, 11 Kent Street, Charlottetown, (902) 368-4000 or island@gov.pe.ca.Media Contact: Jennifer MacLeod
