Premier Binns today released the following statement regarding the decision of Keith Milligan to step down as Leader of the Liberal Party.
"I want to express appreciation to Keith for his many years of active public service. I have had the pleasure of serving with him in the Legislature as we experienced several different roles, and I respect his dedication and commitment to this province. Since being elected in 1981, he has been a consistent and high profile public figure and held a number of important roles in government and opposition.
I am sure he faced mixed emotions in reaching this personal decision. Sometimes the thing more difficult than entering public life is leaving it after a successful career and the many friendships it generates.
Keith will still be an active MLA and will continue to serve his district, Party and province for some time.
I know, especially because of his heart attack earlier this year, that his family will welcome this move to a less hectic pace, and I would like to recognize the role they have played in supporting Keith throughout his political career."
