Premier Pat Binns today expressed sympathies to the family of Lowell Johnston. Mr. Johnston was elected on three occasions to serve as a member of the Legislative Assembly for Fifth Kings.
"As a friend and a colleague, I was deeply saddened to learn of Lowie's death. He was dedicated to his family, community and the Province and will be greatly missed," stated the Premier.
Lowell Johnston was born and raised in Murray Harbour North. He enjoyed a successful career as a general merchant and farmer in the area. He founded the Johnston's Centennial Campground.
In 1978, he offered as the Progressive Conservative candidate and was elected as the MLA for Fifth Kings. He was subsequently re-elected in 1979 and 1982.
Active in his community, Mr. Johnston was an active member of the Murray Harbour North Presbyterian Church, board member of the Hillsborough Home for Special Care, past director of the PEI Tourist Association and a past member of the Advisory Board of Southern Kings and Queens Regional Services Centre.
Lowell Johnston was married to Eileen VanIderstine and they have four children: Paulette, Fred, Judy and Roger.
