Premier Pat Binns Leads Provincial Delegation On Trade Mission To Eastern Europe

Premier Pat Binns and a group of Island business leaders will join the Prime Minister on an eight-day trade mission to Poland, Germany and the Ukraine. The trade mission will seek to conclude new agreements between the province, Island businesses and new economic partners in the public and private sectors. The trade delegation departs today to Ottawa to begin the mission.

"The purpose of this trade mission is to capitalize on the tremendous economic opportunities provided in Eastern Europe countries," says Premier Binns. "Our province has the technology, products and knowledge that the changing economy in Eastern Europe is seeking. The agreements we expect to finalize will bring mutual economic benefits for both sides and enhance the Island's linkages to the global economy."

The Premier notes that during the mission it is expected that new agreements will be signed for seed potato markets, biotechnology, technology transfers and new business-to-business partnerships. Details of the agreements will be released as they are approved.

Premier Binns will be the only provincial premier participating in the trade mission. In addition to meetings with government and business leaders, the Premier will accompany the Prime Minister to Auschwitz, where both leaders will pay homage to the victims of World War ll.
