Premier Mourns Bill Ledwell

Premier's Office
Premier Catherine Callbeck said she joins many other Islanders today to mourn the loss of a very distinguished and honourable Islander, Bill Ledwell.

The Premier said the late Mr. Ledwell made a tremendous contribution to this province in many areas, but he was best known for his contribution and commitment to sport on PEI.

"Bill was an extremely well known and admired citizen. His contributions as a long-time administrator with the provincial government will be with us for a long time."

"It was, however, the significant role he played in the Island sports community that will be remembered by most Islanders," said Premier Callbeck.

Callbeck said over the years Mr. Ledwell was recognized for his commitment to Island sport as well as the community on many occasions. But she was impressed as recently as April 26 at the Sports PEI annual awards banquet in which Bill was honoured with the Sport PEI President's Award.

"Bill was a truly great community leader," she said. "His role in establishing the PEI Hockey Association, his contribution to sports through his writing, as a coach, and an official have left their mark on PEI. He will be missed, especially by his family and friends to whom he was so committed."

Premier Callbeck expresses her sincere sympathies to his wife Adeline, and family.
