The 2016 Ministerial Conference on the Canadian Francophonie (MCCF) was held this week in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Premier MacLauchlan attended the conference on June 22 and 23 as minister responsible for Acadian and Francophone Affairs.
Representatives from each province and territory as well as from the federal government were present to discuss key issues, including Francophone immigration, tourism and early childhood development in the Canadian Francophonie. Conference members strive to increase the offer of French-language services in each of these areas within their respective jurisdictions.
“Our province and our country benefit greatly from the contributions of the Canadian Francophonie and it is important that we continue to work together to develop and implement strategies and policies that strengthen the Francophonie,” said Premier MacLauchlan. “The initiatives and strategies discussed at the MCCF are very pertinent to Prince Edward Island, particularly in relation to enhancing French-language services and developing a pan-Canadian Francophone tourism circuit.”
The next Ministerial Conference on the Canadian Francophonie will be held on June 22 and 23, 2017 in the National Capital Region on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Confederation.
The Ministerial Conference on the Canadian Francophonie, created in 1994, is the only intergovernmental forum that brings together all the ministers responsible for the Canadian Francophonie. The Conference works to make the Canadian Francophonie an open, vibrant, diverse community that contributes fully to the development of Canadian society.
