Premier Pat Binns was joined by His Honour J. LĂ©once Bernard, Lieutenant Governor, today to honour more than one hundred Islanders with the Queen's Jubilee Medal.
Three separate ceremonies were held during the day at Fanningbank.
The Premier indicated that it was a distinct honour to be part of a special event which acknowledges the tremendous contribution which individuals make to Island communities.
"This year marks the 50th anniversary of Her Majesty the Queen's ascension to the Throne. As 2002 quickly draws to a close, it is more than appropriate that we celebrate this important milestone by recognizing the efforts to support communities by individual Prince Edward Islanders," said the Premier.
The Queen's Jubilee Medal represents a high decoration bestowed upon a citizen of the commonwealth who materially demonstrates a devotion and commitment to the quality of life and well-being of others.
Binns advised that he forwarded medal nominations to Rideau Hall of those Islanders who went about their community service quietly.
"Today, we honour those individuals and their families who have made this contribution quietly and without expectation of recognition," stated Premier Binns.
