Provincial government employees are making meaningful contributions to the provincial public service through their concerted and successful efforts to increase diversity in their workplaces, says Premier Robert Ghiz.
“Diversity enhances creativity, innovation and economic opportunities in our province. It is a vital factor in the growth of our population and our ability to recruit and retain skilled employees,” said the Premier. “This week, during Public Service Week, we are pleased to recognize just some of our many employees who are demonstrating leadership in diversity.”
There were three Premier's Diversity Leadership Awards presented this year. The awards recognize employees who demonstrate leadership, promotion, and management of diversity and inclusiveness in the Prince Edward Island public sector.
Robert (Bobby) Kenny of Finance and Municipal Affairs received an award for his dedicated leadership in recruiting employees from diverse backgrounds and promoting diversity within his department.
Pam MacKinnon of the Department of Justice and Public Safety, Community and Correctional Services was recognized for her leadership in providing exceptional community outreach services for Island Aboriginal groups.
The third award was presented to the Human Resource Team, Department of Community Services, Seniors and Labour for organizational leadership in diversity strategic planning.
The presentations were made by the Premier this week at a Celebrating Our Cultural Diversity and Heritage event for provincial public service employees who represent different countries and cultural groups.
