July 30, 1996 Premier's Office Premier Catherine Callbeck is pleased that the Irving Whale has been raised from the bottom of the Gulf of St. Lawrence and is now in the process of being transported to dry dock in Halifax. "Like most Islanders, I have been closely following the lifting of the Irving Whale. Successfully completing the largest marine salvage operation ever undertaken in Canada requires a high level of coordination and cooperation. I would like to commend the efforts of everyone involved in the Irving Whale recovery project," says Premier Callbeck. "Now that the critical lift operation is over, I am hopeful that the Irving Whale will reach Halifax without incident," says Premier Callbeck. Media Contact: Lynn MacDonald
