Premier Callbeck to Attend Bourassa Funeral

Premier Catherine Premier Catherine Callbeck will join with political, business and academic leaders from across Canada at a state funeral for former Quebec Premier Robert Bourassa. The funeral will be held in Montreal on Monday.

"Mr. Bourassa was a man of great courage and conviction with a great love for his province and nation," said Premier Callbeck. "His strong promotion of federalism and the aspirations of the people of his province in a strong, united country remain his most enduring legacy."

Premier Callbeck said that Mr. Bourassa's contributions to national unity were significant and helped bring about a new understanding of the role of Quebec within Confederation.

"All Canadians join with the people of Quebec in their time of loss," she said. "Mr. Bourassa will be remembered as a great political leader and a warm and devoted individual."

Premier Callbeck has expressed her sympathy to the family of the late Mr. Bourassa.
