Premier Binns Comments on International Women’s Day

Premier Pat Binns today issued the following statement on the occasion of International Women’s Day:

“International Women’s Day was first established in 1977 by the United Nations to highlight the progress and challenges in advancing women’s rights. This year marks the 30th anniversary of this important day. The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is about ending violence against women, an issue that concerns all Islanders. Through the dedicated work of the volunteers who serve on the Premier’s Action Committee on Family Violence Prevention, we are seeing Island businesses, communities, organizations and families mobilized to help address this challenge. I want to thank the many people who are engaged on this issue and other ways to advance women’s rights and equality each and every day.”
