Premier Announces new Deputy Minister of Health

Premier Robert Ghiz announced today that Keith Dewar will be the new Deputy Minister of Health.

“Keith Dewar has an extensive professional background in the health field as well as a solid variety of other work experience in both the public and private sectors,” said Premier Ghiz. “I know he will bring extremely valuable knowledge and skills to his role as Deputy Minister.”

From January, 2007 to his recent appointment, Mr. Dewar was the senior vice-president of health services for the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region in Regina, Saskatchewan.

From 2003 to 2005, he held the position of chief executive officer of the Provincial Health Services Authority with the Prince Edward Island government.

Mr. Dewar was vice-president of Holland College from 1995 to 2002 and held the position of director of administration/director of finance and support services for the Prince County Hospital and East Prince Health region from 1991 to 1995. Mr. Dewar worked as a staff accountant with Peat Marwick Mitchell/KPMG from 1980 to1991 in Halifax and St. John’s earlier in his career.

Keith Dewar holds a Bachelor of Science and Master’s degree in Business Administration from Dalhousie University, and also holds a Chartered Accountant (CA) designation. He was born and raised in O’Leary, Prince Edward Island, and resides with his family in Summerside. Keith and his wife Audrey have three daughters and a son.
