Premier Pat Binns today issued the following statement on the passing of Mr. David W. Rodd of Charlottetown:
“David Rodd has made great contributions to Island life. Through his business career, he has been a pioneer in the development of the province’s tourism industry helping build his family’s business, Rodd Hotels and Resorts, from a single motel in Charlottetown to Atlantic Canada’s largest privately-owned hotel chain. Mr. Rodd also gave generously to his community, with his volunteer service benefitting many worthy community-based organizations and charities. On behalf of the Province of Prince Edward Island, I wish to extend condolences to Mr. Rodd’s family on their loss.”
Biographical Information:
A graduate of Mount Allison University and Prince of Wales College, Mr. Rodd was Chairman & CEO of Rodd Hotels and Resorts, a leading Maritime hospitality chain.
Mr. Rodd was involved in many areas of Maritime business and charities as a Director of Maritime Electric; the Confederation Center of the Arts; Island Telephone Company; Queen Elizabeth Hospital; Tibbetts Paints Limited; The Prince Edward Island Convention Bureau; P.E.I. Cancer Society; Past Chairman, Heart Fund Campaign, P.E.I. Division of the Canadian Heart Foundation; Past Honorary Chairman of Big Brothers Big Sisters; the Greater Charlottetown Area and Maritime Provinces Chambers of Commerce; TIAPEI; and the Tourist Industry Association of Canada.
Mr. Rodd is survived by his wife Linda and four children, Mark, Christina, Samira and Chris.
