The PEI Liquor Commission in partnership with Main Street Family Resource Centre in Souris, PEI is pleased to announce the distribution of liquor store bags with the logo “Pregnant, No Alcohol.”
The Main Street Family Resource Centre has been working on a campaign to raise awareness of the fact that it is safest not to drink any alcohol in pregnancy. Drinking alcohol during pregnancy can cause birth defects and brain damage to a baby. The safest choice in pregnancy is no alcohol at all. In fact, it is best to stop drinking before you get pregnant.
"I am very pleased to partner with organizations that work hard to ensure the safety and well being of Islanders," said Hon. Mike Currie, Minister of Development and Technology and Minister Responsible for the PEI Liquor Control Commission. The PEILCC promotes responsible consumption and we believe it is important to work with organizations that share our commitment to this province."
“We are pleased and excited about these partnerships which support our goal of providing services and support to families,” said Barbara Lundrigan, the Executive Director of the Centre.
“The campaign will help ensure that the children of PEI get a healthy start in life,” said Lori MacGregor, the Prenatal Coordinator of the Centre.
The Main Street Family Resource Centre has also developed table toppers and coasters which give the same message. These are available for restaurants and bars to use.
Funding has been provided by the Public Health Agency of Canada in partnership with Main Street Family Resource Centre and the PEI Liquor Control Commission.
