POULTRY SHOW RETURNS TO ROYAL

* Agriculture and Forestry [to May 2015]
Following an absence of two years, the Royal Winter Fair poultry show made a triumphant return this year. The always-popular show drew thousands of fair visitors over the two days that the poultry were on display.

Seven Island exhibitors entered this year’s show and had a number of impressive results. Donald Chappell of Spring Valley took the special award presented annually to the best bird shown by a Maritime exhibitor. This was his first time showing at the Royal.

For the first time in the history of the Royal, two Prince Edward Islanders judged at the poultry show. Trevor MacDonald of Murray River placed the standard poultry classes while Rodney Clow from Bedeque had the task of awarding the prizes in the waterfowl and turkey classes. This was Clow’s first judging this prestigious show while it was the third for Trevor MacDonald; he also judged in 1999 and 2000. In all four judges worked several hours to select the winners at this year’s show.
