April 2, 2007 * Agriculture, Fisheries & Aquaculture [to Jun 2007]The results of the Potato Board plebiscite to determine the level of producer support for the establishment of a permanent acreage cap and a buy-down program were announced today. The votes were counted by Murray Myles, returning officer for the plebiscite. On the question of whether producers supported a permanent acreage cap, 350 producers, or 65.2 percent voted in favour, while 187 voted no. On the second question to determine the level of support for a permanent acreage cap buydown, 284 producers, or 52.6 percent voted yes, and 256 voted no.
