Thomas Sherry, Bedeque and Kelly Corcoran, Bloomfield have been elected to represent the Central and West Districts respectively on the Prince Edward Island Potato Board. Robert Morrison, Returning Officer reported that Mr. Sherry and Mr. Corcoran were elected following the ballot count of July 7, 1998. The deadline for the return of the ballots was June 30.
In the Central District, Thomas Sherry and David Huestis contested the seed position. Ninety-three valid ballots were counted from the 175 registered producers of this district. Mr. Sherry having the majority of votes, was declared elected.
In the West District, Kelly Corcoran and Peter Griffin contested the table stock position. Seventy-four valid ballots were counted from the 141 registered producers of this district. Mr. Corcoran having the majority of votes, was declared elected.
Mr. Sherry and Mr. Corcoran will be joined on the Potato Board by Paul MacAulay (Processing, East District) who was elected by acclamation.
The Prince Edward Island Potato Board consists of nine members, three from each district consisting of one seed producer, one table stock producer and one processing producer. Members are elected to three year terms with the positions being staggered with respect to region and sector representation.
