Plans Underway For New West Royalty Elementary School

* Education [to Apr 2008]
Plans are underway for the construction of the new West Royalty Elementary School. West Royalty Elementary is one of several Island schools to be constructed or renovated under the $35,000,000 Capital Construction Plan for schools.

Currently, there are 163 students at West Royalty Elementary School. The new school will be built to accommodate approximately 450 students. Children from West Royalty, Winsloe, Orchard Hill and Lewis Point will be attending the new school.

A School Construction Advisory Committee has been formed and their first meeting will be held next week. The Committee consists of school board officials, school staff, Home and School members and representatives from the Department of Education and the Department of Transportation and Public Works.

"The input provided by this Committee will ensure all education partners have the opportunity to discuss their concerns and suggestions regarding the new school," says Minister of Education, Chester Gillan.

Further details on the school location and construction plans for the new West Royalty School will be announced in the near future.
