April 8, 2011 * Tourism and Culture [to May 2015]Well-known Island photographer John Sylvester is to be congratulated for earning an international award for his photograph of Prince Edward Island, says Tourism and Culture Minister Robert Vessey. “Not only was the photograph a beautiful illustration of our Island, it gave our province terrific exposure to readers of Coastal Living magazine in the United States,” said the Minister. “Sylvester’s stunning work has featured prominently in our marketing efforts and has certainly helped government showcase P.E.I. as a top tourism destination.” Sylvester was honoured with a Northern Lights Awards for excellence in travel journalism by the Canadian Tourism Commission for a photograph entitled “Winter Wonderland.” The photograph showed the breaking of ice along the Island’s coastline. The competition is open to magazines, newspapers, independent writers, online reporters and photographers who produced Canadian tourism-related coverage. The award was presented during a ceremony in New York City earlier this week. Media Contact: Mary Moszynski
