Health and Social Services Minister Jamie Ballem and West Prince Health Region Board Chair Robbie Thibodeau announced today that Philip Jost has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the West Prince Health Region. He will replace Ken Ezeard who retired recently.
Mr. Jost has extensive health care management experience. For the past fifteen years, he has held senior positions in capital planning and administration, at the Victoria General Hospital and Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax. Mr. Jost is currently Managing Director of NovaBrook eBusiness Solutions, a firm that specializes in computer and Internet business research consulting services. Most recently he held a leading position in the contract implementation of a major software facility assessment initiative of long-term care services for the Nova Scotia Department of Health.
Mr. Jost has conducted numerous academic studies of health policy and health care delivery models. Most recently, he was called upon to present his research to the Romanow Commission on Health Care Reform.
Health and Social Services Minister Jamie Ballem said Mr. Jost's extensive knowledge of the health care system and his administrative experience will be an asset to the region and the provincial health system. "His very positive attitude and personable style also make him a very good fit for the position," he said.
Mr. Jost, a strong believer in the concept of life-long-learning, in addition to his early undergraduate business studies, holds a recent Masters Degree in Business Administration from St. Mary's University and a Diploma in Health Services Management from the Canadian Healthcare Association.
At the community level, he is currently president of the Bedford Minor Soccer Association; past member of Bedford Junior High Advisory Council and Boy Scouts Canada. An accomplished public presenter, he is frequently called upon to speak on education and health related issues.
West Prince Health Board Chair Robbie Thibodeau said the Board is pleased to welcome Mr. Jost to the position. "Phil, a native Maritimer returning to his maternal "Island" roots, is very highly qualified and has a real interest in our region," he said.
Mr. Jost will assume his new duties beginning in August. He will be joined by his wife Sandra, a geriatric nurse specialist, and their three children. "We look forward with enthusiasm to this new challenge in a region that is leading the way in the delivery of primary health and community services, a path that appears to be a perfect fit with my vision of a model for the sustainability of universal health care", said Mr. Jost.
