Requests for proposals for architectural services for the Atlantic Technology Centre will be released today. The proposed Centre is to be located on the eastern corner of University Avenue and Fitzroy Street in Charlottetown. The Atlantic Technology Centre will be a "smart building," providing the latest in today's information technology infrastructure while offering flexibility in adapting to future technology developments.
The Atlantic Technology Centre will: provide infrastructure and resources to help develop and grow strong technology companies; provide access to enhanced technology training; stimulate research and innovation within the information technology sector; encourage partnerships and alliances; as well as grow small start-up technology companies in a supportive development environment.
In addition to office space, it is proposed that the Atlantic Technology Centre will also offer the provincial technology industry access to resource centres, education and training facilities, smart conference rooms, incubation offices and a number of technology development labs.
"We hope to continue our support of the local technology industry by providing access to a world-class smart facility. This Centre will be a key development tool in retaining and attracting leading technology partners to Island companies," said the Honourable Mike Currie, Minister of Development and Technology. "I believe a centre like this one will show our commitment to building a strong information technology sector in this province."
The RFP represents the first phase of the project. It will provide an opportunity for qualified architectural firms to demonstrate their ability to create a "state of the art" office complex. After reviewing the accepted design and costing, a decision will be made to proceed with phase two, the construction phase, of the Atlantic Technology Centre.
The request for proposals will be available on MERX. Closing date for the RFP will be November 14.
