PEI Association of Food Banks benefit from PEILCC initiative

The PEI Association of Food Banks now has an additional $17,992 to help feed people across the Island as the result of the Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission’s (PEILCC) third annual wine cooler raffle.

“I am very pleased to see the level of support that has been given to this annual fundraising campaign that supports community organizations,” commented Robert Vessey, Minister responsible for the PEI Liquor Control Commission. “This year, food banks across the Island will benefit from the generosity of our customers.” PEILCC customers who purchased a $5 raffle ticket had the chance to win one of 23 prize packages consisting of a free standing wine fridge and 35 bottles of red and white wine. This initiative continues to be quite popular, with only 350 tickets sold on each prize package.

“Food banks on Prince Edward Island are always in need and these funds come as welcomed support that will help feed Islanders,” noted Mike MacDonald, general manager of the PEI Association of Food Banks. “We appreciate support of the community and the PEILCC.”

More than 37,000 Islanders use the services of food banks across the province every year. The PEI Association of Food Banks will use the results of their annual HungerCount to allocate donated proceeds to each of its association member food banks.
