The PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women celebrated its 25th anniversary with a launch of its newest publication, "A Baker's Dozen: News, Views & Interviews with 13 Island Women." This booklet profiles the 13 women who have served as Chairpersons of the Advisory Council from 1975 to 2000, including opinion pieces/articles, quotations of the day, biographies and some wonderful photographs from each woman's "herstory." The inspiration for this project came from Lisa Murphy, who is on a leave of absence from the Council. The informal publication focuses on the women who led the organization as opposed to the organization itself. "It has been through their personal commitments and hard work that so much was achieved over the last 25 years," commented Patricia Roy-Ballem, current Chairperson. Editor, Ellen Reynolds asked the women to write about the issues and events they felt passionate about and the result is a unique combination of interviews, opinions, and celebrations.
The public launch in Charlottetown brought together past and current Chairpersons, Ministers Responsible for the Status of Women, and Council members and staff. The general public was also invited for a relaxed evening and the opportunity to greet old friends, meet new ones and celebrate the Advisory Council.
Copies of "A Baker's Dozen" are available free of charge at the Advisory Council office.
