The Honourable Alex B. Campbell, Honourary Chair, announced today that Patrick Watson will be the official CRB (Bronfman) Foundation's ambassador to the PEI Regional Heritage Fair. The highly respected media personality is a well-recognized face to all Canadians. His broadcasting experience and involvement as Creative Director for The CRB (Bronfman) Foundation's Project makes him a tremendous asset to the PEI Regional Fair to be held May 23-25, 1996 in Slemon Park.
Perhaps best recognized as hosting and starring in a variety of programs including CBC television's The Watson Report, This Hour has Seven Days, The Struggle for Democracy and Venture, Mr. Watson is also an acclaimed television producer, filmmaker, author and actor. Mr. Watson has a diverse range of interests and skills ranging from piloting airplanes to performing his own adaptation of The Book of Job on stage in 1984. His best known book is the psychological thriller Alter Ego, published in 1978.
As Ambassador for the Regional Fair, Mr. Watson will participate in both the opening ceremonies on May 23 at 7:00 p.m. and in exhibition day on May 24. While in Summerside, Mr. Watson will attend a joint Rotary/Chamber of Commerce Noon Luncheon at the Silver Fox Curling & Yacht Club, to also be held on May 24. "We feel very fortunate to have Mr. Watson as a special guest speaker," said David Groom, president of the Summerside Chamber of Commerce. "He brings to us a wealth of experience from his career in Canadian broadcasting."
Ron Hately, president of The Rotary Club of Summerside echoed his club's enthusiasm for the luncheon. "Rotary and Chamber members and their guests are excitedly looking forward to Patrick Watson's talk on The CRB (Bronfman) Foundation's Project and his involvement in the program," said Mr. Hately. "Partnerships with the business community and other Island organizations will shape the Fair to become a contemporary celebration of our shared traditions and past."
More than 300 Island students are currently working on multi-media exhibits for the PEI Regional Heritage Fair. A school audience of 4,000 students and the public are expected for the event. As well, other Regional Fair participants will view the Island site via an Internet link. Following the Regional Fair, fifteen lucky students will join their peers at the National Fair in Saint John, New Brunswick from July 19-24, 1996.
